Building A Perfect Date
Building
a perfect date as a poor college student living in Rexburg, Idaho can seem like
an impossible task. Something that includes an activity, dinner, and dessert
for an affordable price can also really add up. I am currently a student here
and planning dates that are inexpensive and fun have been a big task. This
semester I have dedicated a lot of my free time to finding the best spots
around Rexburg to help others as they plan fun, inexpensive, and time worthwhile
dates.
For this perfect date I am going to give three
recommendations for three different places to go on your next date that I feel
are worth the time and money.
The first recommendation will be an activity, the second one
will be a dinner place, and the last recommendation will be a dessert place. There
will be an overview of where the location is near campus and an estimate of how
much the activity will cost. I will also describe our experience at the locations
and what we decided to do and get.
Bowling
For the activity part of the date, I recommend going to the
bowling alley on campus. It is located in the MC building which is right in the
middle of campus so it is easy to walk to. It is on the first level of the
building so depending on where you enter the building you may need to go
downstairs.
Once you get to the bowling alley you can ask for your
bowling shoes which are only $0.50 to rent. You will pay for your games after
so you can get right to your lane and start bowling. The games are $3 per game
and per person so if you were to play two games and rent shoes it will be around
$13.00.
When we went, we played two rounds of bowling. One round we
played normal and the second round we made up a game to make it light hearted
and fun. For the game we assigned 5 different actions to a number and then
looked up a random number generator on our phone which decided which action we
would do. The actions were to spin three times before throwing the ball, using
only your left hand, closing your eyes while throwing the ball, rolling the
ball between your legs backwards, and only using your feet to roll the ball.
This is a great way to have fun and be silly with your date. Since its pretty
impossible to bowl a perfect game while doing these actions it takes the
competition out of it and just makes it fun.
This activity took about an hour playing two games. So, each
game takes about 30 minutes with only two people. They have little booths to sit
it while you wait your turn to bowl. The booths help to break up the bowling
alley and makes it seem more like its just you and your date.
This is such a fun activity and a good first date since it
gives opportunities to talk, be silly, and laugh.
The dinner place I recommend is The Pit BBQ. The Pit is
located on College Ave and is well in walking distance for anyone living near
campus. It is right off Main Street in town. There is street parking right in
front of the restaurant but it is limited so walking would be a good option.
Once you get to the Pit you can walk straight to the back where you can order
your food before picking a table to sit at.
We went on Tuesday for taco Tuesday because they have an
amazing deal. Only on Tuesdays they will have one of their tacos for $1.00 and
every other taco will only be $2.00. For meat in their tacos, they have brisket,
pork, and chicken. They also have an assortment of mild to spicy tacos.
On the Tuesday we went they had their habanero tacos for a
dollar. We ended up getting eight tacos to share. They are sort of small so its
worth getting a few each. We got six of the dollar habanero tacos which are
more on the spicy side and two of their baja tacos which are on the mild side.
Getting eight tacos was well enough to fill both of us but
if you are still hungry, they also have some great sides such as chips and
queso, mac and cheese, baked beans, coleslaw, and spicy corn. They also have a
lot of other entries but they can get a little pricey so for your date on a
budget I would highly recommend taco Tuesday. For us the total amount for our
tacos was $10.
The food here is high quality and so worth it. They are
typically pretty fast in preparing the food as well. For our eight tacos we were
there for a total of 30 minutes to order, wait for food and eat. This place
should definitely be on your date list.
K’Lanis
The third and final place for the date will be dessert at K’Lanis
Italian ice. K’Lanis is a Hawaiian ice dessert place. Its located-on West First
street in Rexburg and it easily walkable for campus living. It is decorated in
a Hawaiian theme and even has a photo booth inside.
They have some good deals for a good amount of Italian ice
and custard. There are a few different things to order with a lot of different
flavors. You can gelati, which is Italian ice and custard together, custard
only, Italian ice only, or a rip tide, which is Italian ice and custard blended
with your choice of soda.
For the gelati, I recommend
getting the pina colada ice with the strawberry milk custard. The Italian ice
here is so smooth and there are so many flavors to choose from. If you get a
rip tide, we either recommend the Summer Sunset or the Dr. Pepper mix. The Summer
sunset is Mountain Dew mixed with pineapple dole whip and raspberry flavor. The
Dr Pepper mix is Dr. Pepper mixed with pina colada ice and coconut custard.
The gelati and the rip tide are both $4 each so this dessert
in total should only be $8. They are open until 10pm so there is no pressure to
hurry the date along. They have seating inside to enjoy it there or you can
take it to go.
This is a fun and inexpensive dessert place to try. For me
its different from my normal places I would go to get dessert so its fun to mix
it up and try new things.
These three places all work together well to give you and
your date a time well spent and inexpensive perfect date. With bowling, tacos,
and Italian ice you will be set for a carefree and fun date. All together this
entire date should cost $31 dollars for the both of you.
While that is still a good amount of money these are all
things for a really good price. If you wanted you can split up the date ideas
as well and have three really fun dates separately. No matter if you split the
dates up or have one super fun date all together these ideas will help you and
your date to get out of the house and bring opportunities to talk with each other
and to get to know each other better.
The next time you go on a date try these three places out. It
will be well worth your time.
